The Convergence of Food & Beauty
Everyone knows that when you feel good, you look good (and vice versa). And that has never been more true as we’re seeing the increasing overlap of food and beauty products. Mushrooms in particular have become the ultimate crossover ingredient between health and beauty, as functional funghi advance into the skin care and supplement arena. Brands like Four Sigmatic are making edible skin care products, including a Superfood Serum that doubles as a stress-relief supplement, and a Superfood Face Mask that doubles as hot chocolate. Talk about looking good enough to eat!
It’s a rich space for both food and beauty brands to tap into, as Sunita Singh Maclaren spoke about during our culture briefing on Food as Medicine, “I think that for the beauty industry there’s a lot of opportunities to partner with the food industry. When people come to our clinic and go through our program, one of the first things they always comment on is their improvement in their appearance… we know that if you have a healthier metabolism it’s going to make you more attractive.” As conversations around natural wellness continue to focus on the intersection of “in me, on me, and around me,” multifunctional products like funghi will likely remain a popular mainstay amidst these constantly diverging industries.
